Out of space? Configure your default location!

If you’re in the middle of downloading a 160GB file and you run out of digital storage, you’re usually out of luck with most file transfer services! But with eSecureSend, you can change the temporary location to a mapped drive and resume the download without starting over. Convenient, right? Or if you’re diligent enough to check before you start downloading, this operation will allow you to choose a mapped drive before you begin a transfer.

Please note that we strongly advise against choosing a mapped network drive as the default temporary location. File transfer is significantly more efficient and resilient when the external storage is physically connected to the computer by a cable. Once the file is on the local drive, it will reliably export to any chosen mapped network drive.
 

STEP 1: Deactivate the eSecureSend agent.

You’ll find the agent menu on your system tray. On a Mac, it’s at the top of the screen. On a Windows, it’s at the bottom of your screen. If the agent isn’t running, you will need to open it up before you can deactivate it. Clicking on the agent will bring up the menu you see below. Choose “Deactivate.”

STEP 2: Wait for it to stop.

This might take a few seconds, please be patient.

STEP 3: Choose Options.

Once the menu no longer says “Stopping”, choose “Options” from the menu.

STEP 4: Select a new default location.

When you first install eSecureSend, the location for the temporary files is set to a default. Click on the button that says “Set” to choose a location.

We strongly recommend that you choose a local drive for the default temporary directory. Once the file is on the local drive, it will reliably export to any chosen mapped network drive.

(IT tip: The locations set here are relative for each eSecureSend user.)

STEP 5: Choose a location with plenty of space available.

We’ll double-check to make sure there is enough space available before you transfer a file.

STEP 6: Activate the desktop agent.

You’ll be prompted to log into your eSecureSend account. Now you’re ready to transfer files!
